Strange request I know ... use a different color for crafted weapon description!
Well, simply put the weapons we can buy from crafter cost 5k + materials.
They're not free like collectors' ones, and in most cases you can buy gold r9 weapons for less than 5k, especially foci, hammers, wands. Purples are normally given away for free or merchanted for around 100g.
Despite the fact that the cost of 5k is higher than 95% of gold weapons you find on the market, those crafted weapons come with a stinky blue wording
In most cases it's not possible to distinguish them from blue junk or free collector item.
So, please give a new dignity to crafted weapons!
Use orange or red, something different from that horrible blue!
Don't tell me that the only important things are the stats, otherwise explain me why A.net used "gold" wording for tormented and lately for destroyer weapons.
They could have used blue wording also for destroyers weapons, which are crafted too (even though they require rare materials instead of common ones).
But I think that if they had done this, most player would have complained.
It's silly, but most of the things we like are silly, and this is a game.

Crafted stuff in Diablo 2 is orange, so I don't see why not.
Though, I've never understood the strange fascination with what colour an item is, especially when you are the only who sees it.
So, my perfect (yes, perfect) purple storm bows and eternal bows that have the exact same stats as gold ones are worse because of a colour that only the user can see? The people in this game are daft.

I think it's because gold is a more appealing color due to the vast amounts of capitalism engulfing the world.
It's true.

Make all crafted description RED.
Seperates them from the very common BLUE and uncommon PURPLE.
Makes them different from the rare GOLD.
I prefere GREEN myself, but I think RED looks wicked sweet.

Common: White.
Enchanted Common: Light Blue
Uncommon: Purple.
Rare: Gold.
PvP: Red
Now... there are not many colors left...
Collector: Dark Blue
Crafter: Yellow? Lime? Light red?
Whatever the color is, it would be good to make collector and crafter item have different colors.

"Now... there are not many colors left... "
ahem...
Let's look at a basic color wheel...
http://realcolorwheel.com/tubecolors.htm
or the list of named colors in Hex/RGB...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_colors
Based off dye colors alone,
- ORANGE
- BROWN (Visibility could be a problem)
- DARK BLUE (Visibility could be a problem)
- SILVER/GRAY
or they could just attach "Crafted" on the bottom just like Bows are "Two Handed Longbow" and such...
As for visibility, this little javascript I found on the web would be useful for determining readability:

Oh... yes, let's use FF9000 to make something distinct to FF8000.
If you look at that wheel, you'll see that you cannot use limegreen and lime for two things that should be distinguished, since they are quite similar.
The 'basic' colors that can be used are those that compose the default Windows palette:
Red, Orange, Yellow, Lime, Green, Cyan, Blue, Magenta...
Dark red, Brown, Olive, Dark Green, Teal, Navy, Purple...
From those, Dark Red, Blue, Green and Purple are already used on items.
Orange is too much similar to gold color of rares.
Yellow is used for interactive objetcs.
Grey, Brown and Dark green are too dark.
Cyan, red, and magenta are too bright.
We have left:
Navy, teal, olive, Lime (already used for NPCs, but green is alsu used for allies)...
There may be many other colors, but they are too similar to the ones already in use.... so that leaves not many colors left to be used for this.
So... if you notice quests dialogs, there are two colors used for names:
- Light blue: the same used for players without party in outposts.
- Navy: The same used in player names when inside parties in outposts.
So the perfect collor for Collectors would be that dark blue.
The one left is crafted items. And this is the hard one.
Maybe a lighter orange, or something like the lime-green used in NPC names.
